CRANE AND MATERIAL HANDLING ENGINEERING
Heavy loads require reliable lifting and material handling systems. Stationary cranes are typically designed for specific tasks and remain in operation at a fixed location throughout their service life. In port facilities, portal cranes and luffing jib cranes are widely used, while container handling cranes play a key role at major ports such as Bremerhaven, Hamburg and Wilhelmshaven.
Crane Runways
Portal cranes and overhead travelling cranes operate on crane runways. In port environments, these are often constructed from reinforced concrete, whereas in industrial buildings steel runway girders are commonly used.
Crane runway girders are subject to high dynamic loads, similar to the cranes themselves. For this reason, fatigue behavior is a critical factor in both design and structural assessment.
Structural Analysis
We carry out structural calculations in accordance with EN 13001, FEM guidelines and other applicable standards for a wide range of purposes, including:
- Investigation of damage or irregular structural behaviour
- Assessment and repair of damaged crane structures
- Design of reinforcements due to increased loads
- Structural evaluation following technical modifications
- Fatigue analysis and determination of remaining service life
- Reassessment of load assumptions due to changed operating conditions
Our analyses provide a reliable basis for safe operation, refurbishment or continued use.
